Awards Handbook

1. Annual Awards Event
1.1 Our Annual Awards Event is held at the conclusion of the season. This event is for playing and non-playing members, Life members, Legends and club sponsors.
For playing members the cost of the event is included in the membership fees.
A number of awards are presented to recognise members, and the event provides an opportunity for the club to come together and celebrate the season.
2. Club Awards
2.1 Awards are presented at the Annual Awards Event to club members who have shown outstanding dedication and commitment to the club. A high standard has been set for each of the award’s criteria. Receiving a club award is an honour.

3. Life Membership
3.1 The Hamersley Netball Club Life Membership is an honour bestowed upon those Club Members who constantly give of themselves over a long period of time. Life Membership is not awarded to a member lightly and to be eligible a candidate must have been affiliated with the club for a minimum of 10 years. View the Life Members Honour Board.

3.2The three ways of earning Life Membership are:
  • Committee Member Only – minimum 10 years service
  • Combination Committee Member (5 years minimum) and Coach – minimum 15 years service in total – E.g. Committee Member 8 years and Coach 7 years
  • Combination Committee Member (5 years minimum) and Manager – minimum 15 years service in total – E.g. Committee Member 6 years and Manager 9 years.
    Please note: Assistant Coach, Apprentice Coach, Assistant Manager and Umpires do not accrue any years of service towards this award.
4. Autoparts Toyota Legends Award
4.1 In order to reward players for long service and loyalty to the club, the Hamersley Netball Club Committee created the Autoparts Toyota Legends Award. This award recognises the time and commitment made by a club member both as a player and representing Hamersley Netball Club. View the Legends Honour Board.

4.2To achieve HNC Legend status a player must meet the minimum criteria and accrue a minimum of 500 points.
Minimum criteria to be assessed:
  • Minimum of 10 years service
  • Minimum of 150 games played
  • Minimum of 4 years Head Coach of a team – or
  • Minimum of 6 years Umpire Mentoring – or
  • Minimum of 6 years Committee

500 Points Accrual System:

  • 40 points – President's Award
  • 30 points – Coaching Excellence Award
  • 10 points – Sportsmanship Award
  • 10 points – Umpiring Excellence Award

5. Autoparts Toyota Coaching Hall of Fame
5.1 Inaugurated in our 40th year, HNC have created the Coaching Hall of Fame award. View the Coaching Hall of Fame Honour Board.

5.2This award has been created to recognise long serving commitment to the club by a coach.

5.3To earn this award the recipients have had to commit themselves not only to Hamersley Netball Club but to their own coaching development and to the wider netball community at Association, Region or State** levels.
Minimum criteria to be assessed:
  • Minimum of Intermediate Accreditation
  • Minimum of 10 years coaching service to HNC
  • Minimum 500 points earned overall

500 Points Accrual System:

  • 50 points Junior Co-ordinator
  • 50 points Senior Co-Ordinator

6. President's Award
6.1 Purpose: The President’s Award is awarded to a club member who has shown outstanding commitment to Hamersley Netball Club and whose contribution has been of great benefit to the club.

6.2 Eligibility: Member of HNC (any category of membership).

6.3 Criteria: The following to be considered:
  • Performing duties above and beyond Committee duty statement
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Works honestly for the advancement of the club
  • Models and drives the values of the cub

6.4 Selection: The current club President selects the recipient of the award.
7. Coaching Excellence Award
7.1 Purpose: The Coaching Excellence Award is awarded to a club coach who has shown outstanding dedication to Hamersley Netball Club in their role as a coach and whose contribution has been of great benefit to the club.

7.2 Eligibility: HNC Team Coach.

7.3 Criteria: The following to be considered:
  • Attend and assist with grading of the club
  • Consistently attends training and games
  • Actively contributes to their own coaching knowledge and education
  • Attaining Netball Australia Coaching Accreditation
  • Displays a high level of sportsmanship and leadership skills
  • Adheres to the club and association policies and procedures, including Code of Conduct
  • Represents the club at Association, Regional, State or National level

7.4 Selection: The Development Unit selects the recipient of this award.

7.5 Medal: The recipient of this award receives the ‘Lyn Pemberton Medal’. The club recognises Lyn Pemberton’s many years of outstanding service as a coach and mentor. Lyn’s passion for developing coaches is second to none in Western Australia and ensures the club continually develops excellent coaches.
8. Umpiring Excellence Award
8.1 Purpose: The Umpiring Excellence Award is awarded to a club member who has shown outstanding dedication to Hamersley Netball Club in their role as an umpire and whose contribution has been of great benefit to the club or competition in which the club competes.

8.2 Eligibility: Member of HNC.

8.3 Criteria: The following criteria to be considered:
  • Attend and assist with umpiring during grading of the club
  • Consistently umpires for the club on a weekly basis
  • Actively contributes to their own umpiring knowledge and education
  • Attaining Netball Australia Umpiring Accreditation
  • Willingly picks up umpiring duties for the Umpire Development Coordinator
  • Represent the club at Association, Regional, State or National level

8.4 Selection: The Development Unit selects the recipient of this award.
9. Sportsmanship Award
9.1 Purpose: The Sportsmanship Award is awarded to a playing member who displays excellent sportsmanship, models the club’s values and/or represents the club positively.

9.2 Eligibility: Playing member of HNC.

9.3 Criteria: The following criteria to be considered:
  • Often displays unselfish qualities and puts the team or club before their own personal gain
  • Displays tremendous sportsmanship on and off court, to team, opposition, and officials
  • Models behaviours that echo the club’s values
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership on and off the court

9.4 Selection: The Development Unit selects the recipient of this award, after nominations have been received by the membership.

9.5 Medal: The ‘Monica Holton Medal’ is presented to the award recipient. The club recognises the passion and dedication Monica Holton had for Hamersley Netball Club, her commitment to developing all members equally.
10. Rising Star Award
10.1 Purpose: The Rising Star Award recognises a member of the club who has shown commitment, dedication and professionalism, and whom the Committee believes will play an important role in our club for many years to come.

10.2 Eligibility: Member of HNC.

10.3 Criteria: The following criteria to be considered:
  • HNC Apprentice, Assistant or Team Coach
  • Attended coach education forums, seminars
  • Attained a Netball Australia Coach Accreditation
  • Represented HNC, in a coaching capacity, at an Association/Regional/State level

10.4 Selection: The Development Unit selects the recipient of this award.

10.5 Medal: The ‘Janine Birkett Medal’ is presented to the recipient of this award. The club recognises Janine Birkett’s dedication to Hamersley Netball Club and her passion for fostering coaching capability within our junior playing members.
11. All Rounder Award
11.1 Purpose: The All Rounder Award was initiated in 2018 to recognise a playing member of the club who lives by the Hamersley values and embodies our “be the best you can be” motto, by not only representing Hamersley on the wider netball stage but also giving back to the club which highlights important community service, personal development and emerging leadership elements for our members.

Another important aspect of this award is the commitment to being a “Triple Impact Competitor” (make themselves better, make the team better and make the competition better) whilst displaying these traits on the court, whether at Hamersley or beyond in the netball pathway. The recipient should also live and role model our club values of Respect, Belonging and Professionalism off the court and is the epitome of an all round athlete by stepping up when needed to support either their team or the club or both.

11.2 Eligibility: Playing member of HNC.

11.3 Selection: The Development Unit normally selects the recipient of this award.
12. Courage Award
12.1 Purpose: The Courage Award recognises a member of the club who experiences tremendous adversity; however still finds a way to contribute to the club.

12.2 Eligibility: Member of HNC.

12.3 Criteria: The following criteria to be considered:
  • A member who has been struck down with illness however still manages to perform duties
  • A member who has sustained a severe season ending injury and has maintained contact with the club and actively worked within their capacity.

12.4 Selection: The President selects the recipients of this award, after nominations have been received by the membership.
13. Milestone Game Awards
13.1 Playing members who play 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 350 games are awarded a Milestone Game Award. Reaching these milestones demonstrates years of commitment to Hamersley Netball Club.

Milestone games of 150 and above are recognised courtside by the club. All celebration arrangements are coordinated by the club’s Culture Officer.
14. Players Player Award
14.1 Purpose: To recognise the best team person, within each HNC team, as voted by the team.

14.2 Eligibility: Playing member of HNC.

14.3 Criteria: The following criteria to be considered:
  • Team Player
    A player who does the right thing by the team. It might mean, for example, they are asked to fulfil a certain role, play in a position they are unfamiliar with or not normally in or play in a certain way. In essence, they play for the good of the team, which may even possibly be at the expense of their own game.
  • Inspiration
    A player who raises the morale, the spirit and / or the energy of the team. They inspire the team to do better.
  • Time Skilled
    A player who always attends training and is always on time for game day.
  • Game Sense
    A player who regularly does the right thing at the right time.
  • Attitude
    Encouraging of others during training and playing.
    Shows respect to coaches, management, team members and other teams.
    Accepts feedback and responds with positive approach.
  • Character
    Good role model on and off the court.
    Participates in wider club roles outside team if and as required.
    Has the respect of teammates.


15. Coach's Award
15.1 Purpose: The award is not intended to be the team’s Fairest and Best player but is chosen by the team coach based on the following criteria:

15.2 Eligibility: Playing member of HNC.

15.3 Criteria:
  • Regular attendance and 100% effort at training and games.
  • Team Player - puts team before self.
  • Accepts feedback and puts it into play.
  • Happy to do whatever is asked of them – doesn’t question coach’s decisions.
  • Encourages and supports her team mates.
  • Always respectful to team mates, officials and opposing teams.
  • Consistent sportsmanship.
  • Standout improvement.
  • Professionalism – punctual, communicates, wears the Hamersley uniform with pride, prepared.
  • Always strives to “be the best you can be”.
