No Limits Sponsorship

In 2022 our No Limits Netball program received a player gear sponsorship of $5,000 from a new Gold Level Sponsor, the Deck Crew. Led by its founder Josh Harrington, proud father of No Limits player Lux and Team 2 player Honey, the Deck Crew are a group of offshore workers from Woodside Energy who have personally donated to our No Limits program.
On Tuesday 17 May, Josh presented the No Limits participants and coaches with brand new Hamersley No Limits kits.
These fantastic kits included a backpack, water bottle, training t-shirt and netball. Hamersley would like to thank the Deck Crew again for their generosity supporting our No Limits program.
No Limits also recieved player gear funding from Jarrad Yates-O'Neil of Waterfront Plumbing & Gas who took up Bronze Level Sponsorship contributing $1,000. Thank you Jarrod.
Thanks also to Amy Fuller who after receiving a personal award from Netball WA acknowledging the time, energy and effort she has put into developing the No Limits program, kindly donated part of her funding back into developing the program.
In addition, we are delighted to acknowledge Lyn Pemberton as patron of the No Limits program and thank Jessica Stojkovski MLA for her $300 donation.
This year No Limits have participated in the Curtin Hamersley Comets Home Game, the Fuel to Go TACT Carnival and most recently the Demons netball competition on 28 August shown below:
The team played five games over the day. After not playing since June they started off a bit rusty but won three games and finished third over all. It was a great day to refresh their skills and play with friends!

Congratulations Hayley

Hayley's 300 game celebration
Congratulations Hayley Butler on 300 Games for Hamersley Netball Club.
Hayley joined the club in 2002 and it’s fitting that 21 years later, she reaches this wonderful milestone.
In her 300th game she played a key role in her team’s 3 point win, feeding some great balls into the shooters.
Hayley is a player who lives and breathes our club values and always shows great integrity in everything she does. A loyal and passionate club member who as well as playing the game has also umpired, coached, volunteered for various committee roles and is currently our social media guru.
Thank you Hayley for all that you do, our club is so much better off for having you as a member!

Congratulations Aimee

Aimee's 250 game celebration
Congratulations Aimee Armstrong on 250 Games for Hamersley Netball Club.
Joining the club back in 2003 as a 10 year old, 250 games is an amazing feat. Playing every single position on the court with passion, determination and most of all heart.
Player, legend and life member, Aimee is a dedicated and passionate club member who is always one of the first to put her hand to help when needed. As well as being a brilliant mum to Flynn and Hadley, Aimee works tirelessly at Committee level with her Development Unit role and also as our Events coordinator bringing fun and laughter to every meeting she attends.
Well done Aimee, here’s to another 250!

Congratulations Adrienne

Adrienne's 200 game celebration
Congratulations Adrienne Lang on 200 Games for Hamersley Netball Club.
Since joining the club as a 13 year old in 2007, Adrienne has impressed us both on and off the court. An ever reliable and formidable shooter in her 16 seasons, and more recently making her mark as the master coach to our 12 year old's.
Adrienne is always first to put her hand up to help out. Her commitment to the Club is unquestionable and she has been a true inspiration to so many players over the years.
Your Hamersley family are so proud of your achievement ‘A’ and we can’t wait to see you play your next 200 games.

Congratulations Annie

Annie's 200 game celebration
Congratulations Annie McKendry on 200 Games for Hamersley Netball Club.
Throughout Annie’s journey at Hamersley Netball Club she has been a player, a coach and an umpire - what the club would call a triple impact member. Annie has also served as a member on the committee as the Hamlet coordinator - Wow!!
Annie, we are very lucky to have you as a member of the club. You epitomise our club values day in day out in all that you do and are truly the “best you can be”. Congratulations on your milestone and we can’t wait to see the next 200!

Congratulations Kat

Kat's 200 game celebration
Congratulations Kat McKenzie on 200 Games for Hamersley Netball Club.
Kat first played for Hamersley as a 15 year old in 2007. Selected as a shooter, she is accurate at any range and shows outstanding agility when moving around the circle. She has also proven to be a versatile player and is often moved into the mid court or swung into defence.
Kat is cool under pressure and can deliver when needed. Her 200th game was no different. Playing in GA for four quarters, she led her team to a one goal victory in what was a fantastic battle.
Thank you Kat for your contribution to Hamersley over the years. We love your warm and welcoming nature, your big smile, and your passion especially when you step on court. We are lucky to have you as part of our club and look forward to seeing you notch up your next milestone.

Congratulations Mikaela

Mikaela's 150 game celebration
Congratulations Mikaela Muller on 150 Games for Hamersley Netball Club.
Mik joined Hamersley in 11U in 2012 and we’ve had the privilege of watching her grow into a talented, kind and incredible young woman. No matter how high the stakes, Mik’s effortless calm nature and natural grace on court helps refocus her teammates in big games when the pressure is on. Her consistency and effort is always above and beyond and it’s a pleasure to watch her read the play, know where to be to back up her teammates, or appear out of nowhere for a stellar intercept.
Mik always plays with heart and for her team, and we’re so lucky to have you as a part of our club. Well done Mik - cheers to the big 150!

Congratulations Emily

Emily's 150 game celebration
Congratulations Emily Haywood on 150 Games for Hamersley Netball Club.
Emily started playing for the club in 2010, at only 12 years of age. In her years at the club, Emily has been a part of 4 premierships and 4 runners up teams, on two occasions receiving the Grand Final Fairest and Best Award. Emily has also been awarded the Players Player Award on numerous occasions, and the Hamersley Courage award in 2017. In her recent years Emily has been developing her coaching and has been a head coach in both 2021 & 2022 for the club.
Congratulations Emily on an amazing milestone achievement, we look forward to celebrating many more with you!

Both girls took out the Gold for WA, Zahra in the U15 Female Beach Sprint and Jayden in the U13/U14 Female Beach Relay. What a fantastic achievement!

Catherine Smith, Fish Out of Water

The club would like to extend a big congratulations to Catherine Smith (Team 13) on her impressive performance at the Hancock Prospecting Artistic Swimming Australian National Championships in Brisbane on the 30 June – 4 July.
Catherine achieved a personal best finish in her individual figures with a silver medal in the international championship team event; featuring teams from Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore and New Caledonia. A bronze medal in the Australian National Championship Team Event and after competing for the first time in the Australian National Championship Duet Event she finished 11th out of a field of 31.
An amazing achievement, especially as she has spent a significant period unable to train this year due to a broken wrist. Congratulations Catherine!

School Sports WA

Congratulations to Clara Wigley, Halle Richards and Alivia King (Training Partner) on their selection in the 2022 School Sport Western Australia team.
Clara Wigley and Halle Richards
This year the players competed from Sunday 24 – Friday 29 July 2022 in Canberra ACT. WA had an exceptional tournament and made it through to the Grand Final. It was a nail-biting final with WA taking the win against QLD 37-36. The team consisted of only 12 players and our Hamersley representatives should be very proud of their efforts and performance throughout the tournament.
Associated & Catholic Colleges of WA All Stars Netball Team
Further congratulations are to be given to Clara and Halle on being selected in the Associated & Catholic Colleges (ACC) All Stars Team. The ACC of WA is an independent sports association with a membership of 89 schools which caters to more than 50,000 students. The ACC includes a series of sporting carnivals where students get the opportunity to develop skills while representing their school. From these carnivals a selection of students are chosen into the ACC All Star Teams.
With only 10 players selected in the Netball All Stars team, this is a huge achievement. Congratulations Clara and Halle!

Uganda Donation

In 2020 with the support of Venetians Netball Club, Hamersley donated netball shoes and uniforms to Uganda and the girls at Trinity Catholic High School. Thank you to all those who helped organise donations, what an incredible effort.

Leadership Program

The 2022 season saw our leadership program take a different structure. The committee brought in Nikala Smith from Thinking Rewired to host some sessions around leadership qualities, mindset and what are club values really mean.
The leadership group from each team from our 13s through to Open have had two sessions with Nikala, a former West Coast Fever player.
Session 1 covered the difference between a fixed and growth mindset, what the best version of ourselves looks like on and off the court as well as pulling apart our values. Session 2 was all about communication, goal setting and handling setbacks by shifting how we frame these.
Each session had a mixture of listening to Nikala, self-reflection and group activities so the leaders of our teams got a chance to learn and apply their thinking to different scenarios.
We also ran a session for both our 12s and our 11s teams. Nikala covered qualities required by good leaders, how important communication is, the difference between fixed and growth mindsets as well as the circle of influence. Nikala challenged the girls to understand the difference of what they can and can’t control and what should have their focus.
Every session has had great participation and we’ve already received wonderful feedback from the players about how interesting and valuable these sessions have been. A big thank you to Nikala for her time and effort in preparing and presenting these sessions.

Cake Stall

By Leanne Spivey
Cake Stall Coordinator
On Friday 6 and Saturday 7 May, we held our annual fundraiser Cake Stall. It was the first time in a few years that we held the stall over a Friday night and Saturday, and it was a huge success.
We had fantastic weather for both days and were kept busy, specially between games, serving our customers.
We were inundated with a fantastic range of cakes, slices and snacks from our members, which was awesome, and we thank all those who dropped items down for sale.
Our Mother’s Day raffle and other gifts were also popular and helped with the fundraising cause.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all our stall volunteers - the stall would not have been such a success without you all. The time you gave us was really appreciated, and we loved the fun you all bought to the stall.
We are happy to advise that the cake stall raised over $2,300 for the club, which was an incredible effort.

Hamersley 2022 Grants

By Nat Ellis
Club Secretary
Dr Anne Aly MP invited community organisations located in the current electorate of Cowan to enter an Expression of Interest to receive a grant as part of Round 7 of the Stronger Communities Programme.
The grant of between $2,500 and $20,000 was to be awarded for small infrastructure projects that benefit the community. Hamersley's submission was successful and we were awarded $5,062 to put towards equipment for the club. Something we were very eager to purchase was new bags for coaches that made it easier to carry netballs, training bibs and other small equipment to the courts.
Our extraordinary equipment coordinator Christine Gillmore spent hours researching and deliberating over the options available and came up with the amazing, logo embroidered coaches bags that the club has been using this year. Feedback from coaches has been overwhelmingly positive - they're practical, hardwearing and look great!
Volunteer Grants Scheme
This year Hamersley was also awarded $5,000 in grants as part of the Federal Government's Volunteer Grants Scheme. We were nominated to apply for the scheme after our project was selected to be put forward by Vince Connelly MP's EOI process for the City of Stirling. The funds will be used predominantly for our amazing volunteer coaches, increasing our coaches' skills and the development of coaches going forward.
KidSport Covid-19 Cleaning Subsidy - supported by Lottery West
Hamersley was successful in being awarded $500 to put towards COVID-19 cleaning costs. Over the past 2 years we have had to purchase bacterial wipes and hand sanitiser and we have also utilised a Club subscription to Zoom to carry out Committee, Coach and Managers meetings during lockdowns and when members have been isolating.
We are incredibly grateful to the Federal Government and Lottery West for making these funds available to the Club and the Committee are dedicated to ensuring the money is put to very good use for the betterment of the club and its members.
