Well what a talented and fun bunch of players we had to work with in Team 13 this year! Janine and I took over just prior to the season starting and after our first training session, we knew this year was going to be a good one. Although some of the girls had played together before, there were a few new to the group but everyone was welcoming and soon they were bonded strongly. With holidays and injuries, we started the season with only 6 or 7 players a game and some of those days were hot!! Our only loss came at the end of round one to HNC 14 and this galvanised the group to focus on our strengths going into the second round. Points went back to zero so it was important to win as many games as possible to put us in the best position for finals. With such an even team who were all able to play multiple positions, it made our job as coaches very straight forward as all the girls stepped up to the challenges each week. It is never easy to face off against your own club in a Grand Final as it also means playing against former teammates and friends. Team 13 went into the game with a steely determination and it was great to get everyone out on court to contribute to our team success and premiership win. Thank you to the parents and spectators who supported our team from the sideline and behind the fence, we appreciate your understanding. To Heidi for taking on the role of manager this year which has not been easy during COVID and Grazia who stepped in at the beginning of the season – thank you.
